Romancelvania – Kickstarter Spotlight

Leave it to the combo of Kickstarter and indie developers to bring gamers another original, interesting, if not polarizing game concept in Romancelvania. Coined "Dracula meets the Bachelor", this gaming convection of genres coming from a slew of industry veterans aims to fill a void that Metroidvania and RPG fans were unaware existed. Developer The Deep End Games has made pretty good progress in meeting their $200k funding goal over the last month and with only 3 days left in the campaign, this is crunch time for fans of quirky Metroidvania titles and just creative game design in general to consider helping put a stake through the heart of the remaining $70k.

Freja and the False Prophecy – Kickstarter Spotlight

Freja and the False Prophecy aims to bring a dose of Norse mythology to the metroidvania scene. The Kickstarter campaign is quite well realized with a playable demo and plenty of information to let backers know what to expect. Unfortunately, with only 15 hours remaining, the development team Unsigned Double is about $2,000 shy of their $22,000 goal. From my time reviewing the campaign and demo, these devs have a high quality product on their hands that any fan of 2D side-scrolling adventure games should reach out to and support.

Castlevania Requiem Officially Announced By Konami Today

Konami just dropped a brand new trailer today, putting an end to the rumors on what exactly this so called "Castlevania Collection" would entail. Titled Castlevania Requiem, the collection will be a PS4 port of both Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood. Little is known about which versions of each title will be released. Will SotN be a direct port of the PS3 version or possibly a port from the Dracula X Chronicles. Both have their merits, but it would seem likely that a port of the original PS1 title, horribly good voice acting in tact, would be the best choice for the collection. Leaving out the 2.5D remake of Rondo of Blood, makes it apparent that Konami is wanting to keep a more rooted feel to the collection.

Castlevania Collection Rumored for PS4 Release

With the recent announcement of Simon and Richter Belmont coming to Nintendo's legendary Super Smash Brothers series later this year, Konami and Castlevania fans have been hopeful that the series is ready to be resurrected after a nearly 5 year slumber. Some very interesting news broke regarding two of the finest titles in the series today and the potential of an even bigger collection.

Beyond Human – Kickstarter Spotlight

With less then 48 hours left in the Kickstarter campaign, Beyond Human is a superbly polished and insanely fun metroidvania title that needs some help from the community to hit it's funding goal. Beyond-Human's initial release will be available for Windows, Mac, PS4, and PS Vita. The PC release will be distributed on Steam as well as GOG.com. It's been depressing to see quality titles like Necrocosmos not hit their funding goals recently and I'd hate to add Beyond Human to the list.

Metroid: Samus Returns – Overview Trailer

A new official trailer was dropped for Metroid: Samus Returns today. Dubbed the Overview Trailer, fans looking for a bit more information on the game will find some interesting tidbits about Samus's new Aeion powers and a list of uses for all 4 Metroid Amiibos, even though the community has known about these for quite some time.

Necrocosmos – Kickstarter Spotlight

To be released on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, Necrocosmos is bringing a new spin to the Metroid formula, introducing survival elements with a splash of randomized progression. Put simply, players will be challenged to explore multiple planets with unique environments and inhabitants, but the developers claim that progression will be randomly generated from player-to-player. An ambitious idea that I hope can be delivered upon. Check out our review of the Kickstarter campaign and demo.
